Who we are & why we do it

We are Voja Travel, founded in response to the issue of mass tourism. Mass tourism has led to the exploitation of local populations and the overexploitation of their lands in many places around the world. This results in rising prices, declining living standards, and money flowing into the pockets of large all-inclusive resorts. While tourists have a pleasant vacation, there is little left for the locals. Not to mention the impact that travel has on the planet. We believe that this can and should be different.
Our approach is unique and makes your journey exceptional. With Voja, you always travel with a positive impact. You enjoy a fantastic travel experience that is fair to the local population, and you leave the destination and the planet a little better off. Make the world better through your travels!
Our Story
Traveling for a better tomorrow is what we are dedicated to across all our destinations. Joshua is 24 when he sets aside his career plans as a lawyer, buys a sailboat, and sets out to explore the world. You can read all about it in his book ‘Journeying with Hope.’ This is how Joshua ends up in Cape Verde, where he meets Katia. They fall in love and together, they sail around the world.
It’s a beautiful time! However, he also saw how travel can leave a negative footprint. And not just in Cape Verde – mass tourism leads to the exploitation of local populations and the overexploitation of their lands in many places around the world. That needed to change!
Upon returning to the Netherlands, Joshua establishes Voja Travel. A new way of traveling that focuses on both the locals and the planet. Traveling for a better tomorrow. This is what we are dedicated to across all our destinations.
Voja Clean Energy Project
Making every accommodation carbon negative
No offset of carbon during your stay at our partners accommodations. That is our goal. With the Voja Clean Energy Project we are placing solar panels on the roofs of our partners. So they can produce green energy, lower their bills and give back to the local community. Changing the world, one solar panel at the time!
Our destinations
We love exploring the world, getting to know new cultures and people and broaden our horizons. We started organising trips to Cape Verde in 2017. Nowadays we are experts of 5 destinations; Cape Verde, the Azores, the Canary Islands, Madeira, Dominica, Guadeloupe and Barbados.
Each and every one of these destinations have their own unique sellingpoints, but during a visit with Voja Travel they all have a couple of things in common; they are off the beaten track, sustainable (or getting there) and especially local.
